Manager’s Notes
Hello! And welcome back to Coach Road for this
afternoon’s match against AFC Wimbledon.
Firstly, I’d like to extend that warm welcome to Kevin
Foster, his Wombles players, staff and the supporters
who have travelled from the capital to Newton Abbot
this afternoon. We wish you all a safe journey home after
full-time.
It’s great to be back playing in Devon after two crosscountry trips to Billericay and Ipswich – both of which
provided contrasting challenges. It was clear to see that
the Billericay game was a stereotypical ‘game of two
halves’, and I was equally pleased with how we attacked
them in the opening stages, and how we responded
defensively in that second 45 as the hosts tried to lay
into us.
Then, at Ipswich last weekend, for the third time this
season, we pushed a professional side – one I fully expect
to be competing in the Championship next year – all the
way. We were unfortunate not to come away with at least
a point, but few teams will cause Ipswich the problems
we did. That’s something to take real pride in, but also
something to build on as we head into the 昀椀nal stretch of
the season and begin planning for the next.
That planning is already underway, starting with the
signing of Beth Everson just over a week ago from
Bridgwater. When we bring players into this squad, we
look for both quality and potential, and Beth certainly
ticks both boxes. She’s been one of the most dangerous
players in the fourth tier this season – and has caused us
problems more than once in the past – so I’m delighted
she’ll now be aiming to score for us rather than against
us! A big thank you to Bridgwater United for their
assistance in getting the deal done.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—this is a tight-knit
group. To be part of it, you have to 昀椀t in not just in terms
of footballing ability, but also work ethic and culture, and
I have no doubt Beth will thrive in this environment over
the coming weeks.
Thank you all for your support today. We’ve only got two
more games here at Coach Road this season, so let’s
make them count. The next one is a big one—Plymouth
Argyle under the lights on Wednesday, March 12. Your
backing is crucial, and we can’t wait to see as many of
you there as possible.
Up the City!
Abbie
